Antony Cooper is an artist blacksmith in the beautiful county of West Sussex. Working from his small traditional forge he produces original artwork and functional products.
Antony discovered blacksmithing after a period of ill health encouraged him to find a new way to live. After a chance encounter, Antony found that blacksmithing at Brinsbury Collage was open to wheelchair users.
Antony spent three years developing his craft and left Brinsbury with the highest award for his exceptional work. Antony strives to bring beautiful bespoke products and will work closely with clients to ensure their individual needs are met. Antony hopes to ignite a passion for blacksmithing by bringing work experience to the wider community.
Much of Antony’s work is inspired by nature. From delicate leaves and ammonite to ornate birds and flowers. You will often see a drop or more of the natural world.
Meet the team
The Sussex blacksmith is a family run business and while Antony is working hard behind the scenes his wife Rosie will be found selling his goods at Nineveh Chapel in Arundel.
Rosie most enjoys the different ideas customers bring to her, she says ‘People will often say can I have this but bigger/smaller or with a different design, it’s great to be able to say ‘no problem’ as custom design is at the heart of what we do. She loves meeting people, hearing their positive feedback is heart warming’.
The children are also getting involved in the business. Their eldest son Alfie is a great help, usually found carrying boxes full of products for market. Their daughter Priya is also an aspiring blacksmith. Currently helping with the carrying and lifting jobs, she hopes to one day follow in dads footsteps and begin to forge her own creations. Priya says ‘when I’m older I would like to be a blacksmith as it looks so much fun and I can work with my Dad all day’.
